With September upon us and summer quickly coming to an end here in the Napa Valley, we can’t help but get excited about the coming months. With everyone returning from summer vacations and getting ready for back to school and preparing for harvest, town is bustling and the transition to fall is palpable.

We are especially looking forward to cooler days, sweater weather, hot morning coffee on the porch, warm afternoons at the pool, the change of colors in the vineyards, cool breezes, and lots of time spent enjoying the outdoors while the temperature lingers around 75 for weeks on end (fingers crossed!). If you have not experienced Napa Valley in the fall, you should consider booking a getaway now. Things tend to fill up quickly during harvest, but if you can snag a room or a rental, you’ll be happy you did.

Available real estate in Napa Valley continues to be scarce with very few new properties hitting the market as we enter the fall market. Both “on” and “off” market transactions continue and well priced properties (at almost all price points below $10MM) continue to move swiftly. Just a few weeks ago, I represented a seller in an “off” market land sale in Calistoga. The property was unique and although we are limited by a confidentiality agreement, I have shared some of the details below. We’ve mentioned before how excited we are about the new hotel going in at 1915 Main Street located at the northern end of St. Helena (immediately before the ‘tree tunnel’ as our children like the call it, that leads out of town towards Calistoga). Construction is well underway and we can see progress being made daily. With 73 rooms, vineyards views, a new restaurant and bar, plus a 3,500 sf spa, we are counting down the days until it opens in several months. Read below for more.

NAPA WATER TAXI TO SAN FRANCISCO

If you’ve ever dreamed of visiting Napa Valley by boat (or leaving from Napa Valley for a day in the city) without needing to get in a car, your dreams may be about to become a reality. From The Napa Valley Register, “A provider of water taxi services crisscrossing the San Francisco Bay hopes to take its boats north to Napa – and take over daily operations of the city’s downtown dock. The proposal by Tideline Marine Group would place the company in charge of managing the 176-foot-long dock, which opened in 2013 on the Napa River’s west bank outside the Riverfront retail and housing complex. In addition, Tideline would launch an on-demand taxi service ferrying Napans to piers in San Francisco, Oakland and other Bay Area destinations.” Click the links below to continue reading about this exciting proposal.

If you live in the Bay Area, you no doubt know how important a review from SF Chronicle food critic Michael Bauer can be. We have loved Solbar, the restaurant at Solage in Calistoga, ever since we moved to the Napa Valley back in 2007 and have spent many an anniversary, birthday, or simple weekday dinner out relaxing by their outdoor fire or cozying up inside. We are so happy to call this place our little Napa Valley retreat (you can usually find us at the kids pool, but we try our hardest to get to Sol Bar as often as possible as well). Congrats to you, Solage, Solbar and Chef Brandon Sharp for the amazing review and write up – well, well deserved in our humble opinion!
