Harvest is in full swing here in the Napa Valley! If you want to get in on the action, come on up for a day trip, or if you’re lucky enough to find an open spot, book a last minute stay at one of the hotels around the valley. There is plenty to do during harvest – al fresco dining, wine tastings on the patio, grape stomping, and it feels like there are multiple harvest parties going on at any given time.
The trees and vines are showing the first signs of the vibrant color change that’s about to take over the blanket of green we are currently seeing – things are about to get crazy beautiful here in the Valley! Not that they weren’t already… we are just a little bit in love with Fall here in the Valley though. If you haven’t experienced it, believe us that it should be moved to the top of your ‘must-do’ list.

Not unlike those in the grape farming business, sellers across Napa Valley are finding the last several weeks to be “harvest” time with regard to selling their properties. Real estate agents and their clients around the valley are busy. It is interesting to note that according to a recent article published by CoreLogic, that although median prices continue to rise, “adjusting for inflation, the San Fransisco Bay Area’s median sales price in August 2016 remains about 15 percent below its June 2006 peak.” And although the market appreciation has slowed from the pace of 2012-2014, gains “have since been single-digit and fairly steady averaging 7 percent over the past two years.” With the limited supply of available properties on the market and a deep pool of interested buyers, we can expect to see a strong finish to the 2016 selling season.

THREE-MICHELIN STAR TOKYO CHEF COMING TO NAPA VALLEY

We had to put this one first because, well, we are obsessed with sushi. The new restaurant, Kenzo, will be located in the former Pearl space in downtown Napa (1339 Pearl St.), and will be, “an intimate, high-end, prix fixe restaurant with 27 seats, which includes a ten-seat sushi bar and seven-seat private room.” Heading up the restaurant will be executive Chef Hiroyuki Kanda, who currently runs Kanda in Tokyo, which has earned three Michelin stars for the last nine consecutive years. We are absolutely on the edge of our seats waiting for this new spot to open, which is scheduled for November 16th.

SOLAGE IS ONCE AGAIN AN AUBERGE RESORT

As you all know by now, one of our favorite places in our little Valley is Solage in Calistoga. We are members there and try to spend as much time as we can at the pool, fitness center, SolBar, and Spa Solage. Solage opened in 2007 and was managed by Auberge until 2014. In a partnership with hotelier Greg Flynn, Solage has now returned to Auberge Resorts as the third property in Napa Valley, along with Calistoga Ranch and Auberge du Soleil. In more Auberge related news, three of the collection’s resorts have won 7 World’s Best Titles in Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report Reader’s Choice Awards. EFFORT UNDERWAY TO PROTECT 856-ACRE FOREST IN ANGWIN

NAPA VALLEY FILM FESTIVAL

If you’ll be in the Valley next month, the Napa Valley Film Festival is a must do. We’ve attended some really wonderful short films in the past, and are so honored to know one of this year’s filmmakers, our very good friend Ms. Kelly Amis! Her film is titled “Think of Calvin” and is part of the Documentary Shorts program and will screen four times, which are all listed on the NVFF website. However, if we were to choose to attend just one, the Friday Nov. 11th showing at 8 pm at the Farmstead Theatre in St. Helena would be our pick (we adore Farmstead).

There are so many other wonderful films to check out as well –
from their website, “The Napa Valley Film Festival (NVFF) is an immersive, sense-awakening celebration of the finest in cinematic story-telling dedicated to the notion that the best of humanity lies ahead of us. At NVFF, each year’s most outstanding new independent films are washed down with world class food and wine, tucked into bed each night with sublime hospitality, and greeted each gorgeous morning with opportunities to deepen the bonds between artists and audience.
