Tucked into the base of Mount St. Helena at the northernmost tip of the Napa Valley lies Calistoga, a bedroom community of 5,000 people with the rustic charm of a 19th century western town. Calistoga is home to two of the Valley’s most prestigious resorts, Solage Calistoga (one of our all-time favorite hang outs) and Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley (pictured above and newly opened November 2021).

Long a destination of health seekers because of its hot springs rich in volcanic minerals, Calistoga is home to many spas that offer a host of healing therapies, including a signature Calistoga experience — the mud bath! Downtown Calistoga (photo to left, with the sign for Dr. Wilkinson’s, one of the popular spots for mud baths) is lined with eclectic shops, fine dining establishments, and the vibrant Arts Walk. Compact and bikeable, this amiable town offers world class wining and dining, yet is known for its casual, laid back feel. That’s probably why it is consistently a favorite with both locals and travelers alike.
