Just west of Napa County and in between Marin and Mendocino, you’ll find Sonoma County, in which the small city of Sonoma is located. With a population of just over 11,000 people and the largest and one of the most vibrant town squares in all of California, this charming town is known as the heart of Sonoma County.

The historic town of Sonoma is known for its rich cultural heritage and unparalleled natural beauty. Art galleries, shops, tasting rooms, restaurants, bakeries, and a historic theater line the streets around the colonial-era Sonoma Plaza – an eight-acre town square, the largest in California. Venture beyond downtown to explore brew pubs, more shopping, art galleries, and more.

Sonoma is also home to California’s oldest winery; Buena Vista Winery, as well as Gundlach-Bundschu, the state’s oldest, continually operating family winery. Many new wineries are popping up in Sonoma as well, such as Scribe Winery (photo to the left).
